Capstan Systems Automation for ITC firms

Inspection · Testing · Certification

The certificate is in date. The qualification behind it lapsed in March.

A welder qualification under ISO 9606-1 runs on two clocks: a two or three year expiry, and a six-month continuity record signed by a supervisor. A spreadsheet tracking expiry dates only ever shows you the first one.

The admin that grows every time you add a scheme

Multi-scheme tracking

PCN, CSWIP, ASNT, 17020, 17024, 17025, client and class approvals. Each with its own validity, its own renewal, its own evidence. Held together by one spreadsheet and one person's memory.

Continuity and recorded hours

Six-month signatures, recorded training periods, activity windows per process and position. The parts that lapse quietly, without an expiry date to warn you.

Reports rebuilt by hand

The same figures typed into the certificate, the report, the client's portal and the audit pack. Four chances to introduce the error you'll find at assessment.

How it starts

01

A conversation, not a demo

Twenty minutes on how a job actually moves through your business, from enquiry to certificate to renewal. I ask, you talk. Nothing to install and nothing to sit through.

02

A written note, free either way

One page on where the hours are going and what's worth automating, with the parts that aren't worth it named as well. If we stop there, you keep the note.

03

One workflow, fixed price

The sharpest problem first, built on the systems you already run, live in a few weeks. It runs in your environment. Your data never sits with me.

Who you're dealing with

Capstan Systems is a one-person practice. I'm an electrical engineer who spent years in industrial and marine engineering before moving into software, and I've spent most of my working life inside the kind of firm that runs on spreadsheets nobody trusts but everybody uses.

That's the whole pitch, really. You won't spend the first call explaining what a WPQR is, what a continuity record does, or why an assessment matters. I build the automation, and I'll tell you plainly when a problem isn't worth automating.

Start with the conversation

No obligation and no sales call. If there's nothing here worth fixing, I'd rather tell you that in twenty minutes than sell you something you don't need.
